Core course: Inter-Cultural Management Developing skills in intercultural management will be the key to successful organisational management in the course of the 21st Century. You will examine the theories and research advances in behavioural sciences in relation to the understanding of cross-cultural management. In particular, our main aim is to fully explore cultural factors and their impact on global management. Topics include : The nature of international business Globalisation and its implications for managers World views: socio-cultural systems Cross-cultural communication and cross-culturation Nonverbal communication Understanding of cross-cultural management dimensions Organisational culture Cross culture motivation Cross-cultural negotiation Cross-cultural leadership Intercultural relationships Organisational conflict and conflict resolution Managerial excellence in cross-cultural management

Core course: Skills and Behaviour


OBJECTIVES

This course is designed to achieve the following learning objectives:

  • To create a positive working atmosphere in the student group where working together, communicating frankly and achieving results become the working norms of the students.
  • To acquire some core learning strategies and study skills relevant to an advanced level of study: these include self-management, presentation skills etc.
  • To learn the art of working and studying in a multi-cultural group where different value systems can effect communication, learning and the level of motivation of individual students.

The learning environment will be interactive and participative. All students will be expected to become actively involved in the learning activities. There will be a mixture of teaching methods which include: formal presentations, small group work, projects, simulations and practical activities.

CONTENT

The content will include:

  • identification of the students resources, team work, communication skills and analysing the dynamics of the group.
  • self-management, time management, using resources effectively, presentation skills and planning.
  • cross-cultural dynamics, perception, how differences can be used positively and some common misunderstandings.
